AUSTRALIAN model Alyssa Sutherland's latest foray into acting could have been reality meets fiction.
In online TV series Huge Sutherland plays 29-year-old model Izzy, who is told she is too old for the catwalk and so reinvents herself as a rock band manager. But reality is rosier. Sutherland, 26, is bucking the trend for using younger faces in fashion by signing on for top designer Calvin Klein's latest campaign. She is the face and body of the label's new yoga wear line, Performance, which is out this month. The announcement comes at a time when older models are back in fashion. One of the original supermodels, Linda Evangelista, is back in work as the face of Prada's autumn-winter collection. At 43, Evangelista has a few years on Christy Turlington, who, at 39, is the latest face of Escada.Naomi Campbell, 38, appears in the new Yves Saint Laurent campaign, and Claudia Schiffer, a 38-year-old mother of two, is modelling the latest collection from Salvatore Ferragamo. After a number of small walk-on parts in feature films, Brisbane-born Sutherland considers her part in Huge - her first lead role - as a coup and hopes for more acting work."Acting is certainly one of her main goals at the moment," said Kathy Ward, of Sutherland's agency, Chic Model Management. "She's really enjoying the challenge."
