    DOM Osborn has joined the team at Purser Corporate Communications as a consultant.

    Dom completed a bachelor of communication degree with the University of Newcastle last year, majoring in journalism.

    He has written articles for travel publications and online material and has worked with private sector and charity organisations.

    Managing director Bob Purser said Dom would work with the consultancy's many clients in the health, community, mining and business service sectors.

    SPORTING CHANCE

    NEWCASTLE Commercial Finance has appointed experienced adviser Darren Herbert as part of the company's expansion plans.

    Darren is well-known in Hunter professional and sporting circles.

    He has represented NSW Country in cricket, captains the Hamilton-Wickham first grade cricket team and has played rugby with Merewether Carlton.

    KEEPING IN TOUCH

    THE coal industry, through the NSW Minerals Council, will sponsor the Touch Life grand final family day to be held at Hunter Valley Gardens on the Anzac Day long weekend.

    The council and Hunter Valley mining companies including Xstrata Coal, Centennial Coal and Peabody Energywill field several teams for the event.

    The event, which was created by former Wallaby captain Nick Farr-Jones, will raise money for the Wesley Mission in NSW to tackle homelessness.

    Touch Life will include a corporate touch football tournament on Saturday followed by a concert featuring Ricki-Lee, Leo Sayer and the Sydney Street Choir and will finish with a grand final family day on the Sunday.

    "The mining industry is the backbone of the Hunter Region and I am delighted that we are supporting such an important cause," NSW Minerals Council chief executive Nikki Williams said.

    NEW ROLES

    SUTERS Architects has announced appointments in the Newcastle office.

    Edward Highton and Ben Griffin have been made associates at the firm.

    Edward, a graduate of the University of Huddersfield, in the UK, worked for architectural firms in London and Manchester before joining Suters.

    Ben graduated from the University of Newcastle and joined Suters in 2004.

    Ed Clode, a principal of the practice since 1981 and who was involved with the recent Mater Hospital public private partnership, has been appointed special projects team manager.

    TOP OF THE HEAP

    THE 2008 Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards will be officially launched at the Hunter Region Business Enterprise Centre annual dinner on May 13.

    Port Stephens Council economic development manager Lesley Morris will be guest speaker for the event, which will be at the Bradford Hotel, Rutherford.

    The awards will be announced on September 12 at Maitland City Bowls and Recreation Club.

    WINDOW TO NATIONB

    ROADMEADOW firm AB Window Fashions received a silver award for highest product sales at the Hunter Douglas awards for sales excellence held in Sydney recently.

    AB Windows was selected for the award from more than 60 Luxaflex window fashion galleries in Australia.

    Jim Adams and Gary Bruniges recently celebrated their second anniversary operating the business.

    WINE TIME

    AFTER 11 years as sales manager with Pernod Ricard looking after the Northern NSW Region, well-known Novocastrian Scott Dorman has joined Grant Burge Wines.

    Scott has said he is looking forward to the new challenge of making the Grant Burge Wine portfolio available throughout the region.

    The family-owned company produces wines from the Barossa Valley.
